they wanted to look sexy and free to attract men.

they sought for freedom of sexual life and full emancipation of women

most women dressed informally and seemed like the women emancipation was at hand.

men just saw those women as sexual objects

so their goal, emancipation, was achieved but their "emancipation" was more of a freedom to attract men than a freedom for the girls in 20's.

The flappers of the 1920s were young women who rebelled against societal norms by challenging traditional gender roles through their fashion, behavior, and attitudes. They symbolized the changing attitudes towards women's independence, freedom, and equality during the Roaring Twenties. Flappers were considered a symbol of the modern woman who embraced new ideas and lifestyles.

The slang word "flapper", described a young woman in the 1920's, possibly the word compared the young woman to a young bird flapping its wings while learning to fly.

The word could have derived from an earlier use in northern England to mean "teenage girl", referring to one whose hair is not yet put up and whose plaited pigtail "flapped" on her back

By 1920, the term had taken on the full meaning of the flapper generation style and attitudes.

"the social butterfly type... the frivolous, scantily-clad, jazzing flapper, irresponsible and undisciplined, to whom a dance, a new hat, or a man with a car, were of more importance than the fate of nations".....................Dr. R. Murray-Leslie
