If you find geography boring, it is most likely you do not or have not yet learnt to appreciate the subject.

Geography covers a large field, ranging from facts to research to inference. Human geography can include culture, history, tourism, urban development, environmental issues, politics, religion etc. while Physical Geography can include oceanography, geology, hydrology, biogeography, geophysics, climatology, environmental geography etc. The list is long, and you are bound to be at least a bit interested in one sub-field of geography.

Many students who find geography boring may be due to boring or ineffective teachers. Teachers too engrossed in completing the syllabus may bore students with so many facts and drone on and on during class which makes the learning unconducive.

A few tips to interest yourself in geography:

  1. Find an area of geography, whether listed above or not, and read up a bit more on it. This area of geography should be new to one or never taught in school before, so that interest is not killed off.
  2. Watch documentaries on National Geographic or Discovery Channel. These visuals can aid one in remembering things, as well as make it more interesting and lively. These are much better than the notes or textbooks given out in school.
