About why science is important?

I am assuming that you are asking this question from your computer....that receives a signal that either travels through the air or phone lines, and then takes what you type and transfers that into a code the computer can understand and transmit then back to something you can share with the world...All science.Or The fact that with this typing you are exposing these thoughts to the whole planet...at the same time...almost instantly....again SCIENCE.Or inventions...cell phones, ipods, MP3 players, plasma TV, Video Games, cars, air conditioning, light bulbs, electricity, air planes, computers, cameras, radio, theaters....guess I could go on forever....all originally concepts of a scientific mind.Traveling into space, under the ocean, studying tsunamis, earthquake warnings...all SCIENCE.Medicine, life saving surgery, advancement in the study of illness like aids, breast cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and STDs....SCIENCE.and on, and on, and on!

On a purely practical level for a start, without Science we would not have Engineering, except in a very rudimentary, rule-of-thumb way. So we not have electricity and all that which it powers, powered transport, modern sanitation and water supplies, medical equipment and care, good-quality homes, .... Let alone be able to waffle about it on the internet which could not exist anyway without Science.

More aesthetically or culturally, we would know almost nothing about the world we inhabit, nor of the Universe in which it resides.

Essentially, Science has allowed us all our cultural and social progress from the level of about the 16th Century; and progresses still.
