There was a poor farmer who lived happily and peacefully with his aged mother in a place called Shinano. Their governor doesn't believe in failing health and strength which caused him to send out a cruel proclamation to put death to all aged people. The poor farmer couldn't kill his own mother so he brought his mother to the abandoned mountain with a little food. The poor farmer dearly loved his mother so he brought his mother instead in a secret compartment in their kitchen. Then, another order was sent out, to present him rope of ashes. The farmer twisted straws and stretched it upon a row of flat stones and burn it on a windless night just like his mother told him to do. The governor was amazed and the law was abolished.
