Death certificates usually get issued in the state you die by the coroner. However, the living relatives can request a copy in the state of the dead person's residence.

A death certificate is just that - a "certificate" issued by the authority in the jurisdiction in which the decedent perished "certifying" the cause of death. It is a legal document and cannot be "duplicated" by a coroner or medical examiner of another jurisdiction.
