Well I am not sure but I think Its because many years ago there were big illnesses like Smallpox and plague with no cures but now those diseases are rare and we have big health care which means more people are being cured. However a rise in the Birth Rate is right to.

High birth-rates in some areas have something to do with population increase. In China, where the law restricts each couple to one child, the population increases. First, the law isn't being followed by everyone. But, second, the average life-span has increased tremendously there. And, couples still have their children fairly young. With the birth limits, the population should eventually stabilze (and even reduce), but only after a few generations at a stable life-span. For now, the population is increasing.
