Pre-perm lotion is designed to prepare the hair for the perming process by altering its structure and enhancing its ability to hold curls. It typically contains ingredients that help to soften the hair's cuticle, making it more pliable and receptive to the perming solution. This treatment can also help to protect the hair from damage during the chemical process by providing moisture and reducing friction. Overall, pre-perm lotion aids in achieving more uniform and long-lasting curls.
Perm lotion is an alkali and when it is applied to the hair it makes it swell and opens the cuticle (the outside layer). Then it breaks down the disulphide bonds within the hair that give it it's natural shape to make the hair the shape of the former (curler).

Well, actually i have heard it tangles hair but some hair which is thin and smooth wouldn't mind a little lotion but, always tangled, thick , notted up hair wouldn't be so good for your hair. ;) Actually I have thick, long hair and I use lotion in my hair quite often. It does not make it tangled or knotted. I haven't discovered if its good for my hair or not... but I always get compliments on hair good my hair looks when I use it.
