It's impossible to say that the progressive movement was 'achieved' but it's certainly true that TR was the first President to ask whether American democracy answers to corporations or if corporations answer to American democracy. His answer was that business must answer to the people, through their government, and that property rights must serve human rights.
Historians view the end of the progressive age as the 1920's. The period from 1890-1920 saw much political reform and social activism in answer to the flagrant abuses of political machines and monopolizing corporations.
Prohibition was a typical Progressive issue because it attempted to force people to behave in a certain way (abstain from alcohol) because the Progressives believed that it would be good for them and the country.
The Progressive Movement was full of contradictions. The movement simultaneously worked to both expand and limit the rights of the American people. It promoted the urban-industrial society which often led to the poor working and living conditions it opposed. It opposed trust corporations but supported the philanthropic efforts undertaken from those corporations. It also promoted individual freedom while simultaneously increasing government regulation of food, entertainment, reproduction, and education.
Some goals of Progressive reformers in the US were: elimination of government corruption, education reforms, regulation of corporations and monopolies, elimination of child labor, etc.
Progressive presidents in the United States include Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. Roosevelt is often credited with pioneering the Progressive Era through his reforms aimed at regulating corporations and protecting consumer rights. Taft continued some of these initiatives, although his presidency was marked by party divisions. Wilson's administration further advanced progressive ideals with the establishment of the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission, as well as significant reforms in labor and antitrust laws.
There are various types of corporations, including C corporations, S corporations, nonprofit corporations, and foreign corporations. C corporations are the most common and have no restrictions on the number or type of shareholders. S corporations are more limited in terms of ownership and taxation benefits. Nonprofit corporations are organized for charitable, educational, religious, or other purposes, while foreign corporations are formed in one country but operate in another.
