I too had endoscopic surgery done as treatment for trigeminal neuralgia. I have about a 1 1/2-inch "hole" covered only by the dura behind my right ear. It has been 3 years, and, recently, I asked my family doctor why it had not grown back. Apparently, the bone in your skull is a plate-type bone that does not grow back, unlike the bones in your arms and legs etc. They used to use a metal plate to cover these, but now, if it is not a large area (and because of the frequent use of MRIs), they simply put a dural (the lining that covers the brain) patch over it.
