Biologically speaking, there is none. We function in the same manner as other mammals. Our ability to use tools, form societies, and develop a spoken language is what sets us apart. Other species of animals have been observed doing some or all of these things, particularly other primates.

Since people technically are animals, there really isn't a difference. However, different populations have different dispersions. They can be clumped in different areas(humans), randomly placed, or evenly/uniformly spread out in a given area(like when we plant crops)
