Yes. There are absolutely real brands of Mead that may be bought in the US. These brands of mead are often carried by either a large wine store such as Wine World or by small Ethnic shops which focus on giving customers access to types of food or beverage that they would not normally have access to unless outside the country. I have bought mead from several different locations, including liquor stores, Wine World, and ethnic stores. The most common brand is Chaucer's, which is relatively spicy compared to some of the more sweet honey nectar tasting ones. The brand Ragnar is a new brand I recently bought, which is an unusual dry honey wine much like dry sherry only sweeter with a honey taste instead of almonds. Many people believe mead to be more like beer than wine, but traditionally it is a wine that may be flavored like a beer depending on the spices and fruit used during it's production. There are many brand which I have still yet to try, unfortunately I have been unable to locate the one brand I tried that I found to be exceptional as the bottle was lost and I have forgotten the name of the brand.

One way to tell if mead is infected is by observing any unusual smells, flavors, or appearances, such as a sour or off-putting taste, a cloudy or murky appearance, or a strange odor. Additionally, if the mead shows signs of fermentation after it has already been bottled and sealed, it may be a sign of infection.
