Wholesale producers from all across the United States and the world grow, pick, sort and package their products. From lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, to beef, pork and eggs and even bread, chips and other snack food items.

Then they take those products and sell them to one of the grocery stores or national chains who send large semi-trucks to pick up the products. They are then shipped either across the country on those trucks or are taken to docks where they then get loaded onto ships and sent across the oceans.

Eventually they end up in your local grocery stores "back room" where they will unpack them and load them into the displays at your market. Where you show up and bring it to your house to make something tasty. Hopefully if your lucky, it was only on the road for a 2 - 3 weeks, if you're not lucky it's probably been on the road for a month or more.

The next time you buy a piece of fruit, bag of Doritos, or that slab of bacon flip it around till you can find out where it came from. Chances are that it's a lot farther away than you realize. I encourage all environmentally minded people to please buy locally if they can, the carbon footprint created by shipping products around the world is huge!

Where to get chips?

You can buy from supermarkets these days - the superstores. Amazon and eBay are great to find good chips. However, most of the chips on eBay and Amazon are made of plastic and have metal inserts. Some people prefer this, as the metal insert makes it feel heavy - i.e. expensive, but actually they feel cheap or low quality. Professionals and casinos use clay and ceramic chips. Ceramic chips are good for customisation. For clay chips I would go for Paulson chips - they are the best. For custom chips, use ceramic chips, they feel good, durable and last a lifetime. You can print any design on them. Avoid companies that require you to submit your own image unless you are good with graphics (adobe illustrator).
