What I remember most about Woolworths was going with my mother to bank at the corner of Roan and Main. We usually ate at Woolworths lunch counter afterwards, but my mother said we couldn't because there was a sit in by Blacks who could not be served there. I said we should join them. My mother blanched and said no that it was not our business. I think that was the moment when I knew she was wrong simply because it was unfair. I'm not sure I even knew where my indignation came from. But I already had this sense of moral outrage. Obviously I still do. Can someone tell me the year of that sit in?

What else can I help you with?
