If this is the condenser that is frozen, you have a problem with the defrost cycle. There are 2 things that need to be checked, the defrost sensor and the defrost control board. More than likely it is the defrost control board that is the problem and of course that is the more costly of the 2.
To GE model GSSxxxx models, there is no defrost timer. It uses the main control board to time it.
defrost is the default mode. in most cases a vacuun leak is the culprit.
The center vent, or defrost duct.
The defrost timer sometimes is built into the main board
the defrost timer is part of the circut board that has your ice cube selector switches on it..rite above where the ice comes out on the outside of the freezer door..
The operation of the electric defrost heater and the hot gas solenoid is typically controlled by the defrost timer or a defrost control board in refrigeration systems. These components regulate the timing and activation of the defrost cycle, determining when to heat the evaporator coils to remove frost buildup. In some systems, a thermostat may also play a role by monitoring the temperature and signaling when defrosting is necessary.
This is located on the outdoor coil. It is usually toward the bottom of the condenser coil and will have 2 wires attached to it. These wires come from the sensor and go into the defrost control board. It is a disc and is easily removed from the coil.
Manual defrost is the instructions for you to manually defrost your freezer and automatic defrost is saying the freezer defrost on it's own.
Assuming you are talking about a heatpump... Defective defrost timer board or thermostat.
Your unit is freezing up out side like a block of ice? if so then obviously you have a heat pump.. what is happenong is your defrost board or thermostat on the out side unit is no good and needs to be replaced.. if you cant afford service on it, to defrost the unit some what quickly, turn your air conditioner on for abour 5 minutes.. that should defrost the unit..
i had to defrost the iced chicken.
