What is energy

There are different sorts of energy such as electrical, wind, thermal, nuclear, tidal, combustion, muscular, water, and anything else used voluntarily or involuntarily to make something occur. energy is the motion of molecules.

Another way of defining energy is as the capacity to do work. Thus potential energy means that the capacity is there but not being used, whereas if a process is using energy, such as heating water, we talk of energy being expended during the process

Kinetic energy means the energy possessed by a mass which is in motion.

Energy is not a force, energy is the ability to do work, and work is the combination of a force and a movement. Force is expressed in Newtons, and work, or the expenditure of energy, has the dimensions of force x distance, or Newtons x meters in the SI system.

A:Energy in its most general definition can be thought of as the ability to do work. The type of work can vary-mechanical, electrical, thermal, nuclear, and so on. There is a good Wikipedia entry under Energy which is worth study. A:CAPACITY TO DO WORK IS CALLED ENERGY. A:To put it short, energy is the ability to move against a force A:Thermal Energy is the motion of molecules.

A:

Energy is the ability to do work. There are two main forms of energy. Kinetic and Potential. Kinetic energy is caused by movement and potential energy is stored energy. The minor forms are electrical, wave, nuclear, chemical, sound, solar and heat. Energy is measured in joules and kilojoules. One joule is approximately the amount of energy needed to lift 100 grams to 1 metre. In exact terms it is the amount of energy expended in moving 1 meter against a force of 1 Newton.

Mechanical Energy

is the energy of motion that does the work like the wind turns a windmill.

Chemical Energy

is the chemical reaction causing changes; food and fuel both store chemical energy.

Heat Energy

where motion or rise in temperature is caused by heat like a fire in your fireplace.

Electrical Energy

is when motion, light or heat is produced by an electrical current like the electric coils on your stove.

Gravitational Energy

where motion, like water going over a dam, is caused by gravity's pull.

When energy is used it changes from one form to another. Let's look at an example of how energy changes: The gravitational energy of falling water changes to mechanical energy when it turns a turbine. The energy from the turbine turns a generator that creates electricity that you use to turn on a light.

What Energy is ? and is NOT

Energy is not a substance. It cannot be seen, weighed or take up space. Energy is a condition or quality that a substance has. Energy is a property or quality of an object or substance that gives it the ability to move, do work or cause change.

The Law of Conservation of Energy states that:

Energy cannot be created or destroyed.

It can only be transformed from one type to another,

or passed from one object, or substance to another.
energy is an indirectly observed quantity
