How do waves change as they approach the shore

As waves approach the shore, interaction with the sea floor slows the waves down and the crests of the waves bunch up. They increase in height as the energy in each wave compresses into a shorter horizontal distance, but the period of the wave does not change. Eventually, the waves break.

Stream gradient role on stream velocity

An increase in gradient will generally increase stream velocity.

Are properties of water more dense as a solid than a liquid

Water is less dense as a solid. To understand this just think a constant volume of water. Freezing water causes the volume to expand and the ice solid floats on the liquid water. Therefore ice is LESS dense than liquid water.

What do all wetlands have in common

They are wet.

*****

Wetlands form an important environment for aquatic plants and animals. They are also a haven for migrating birds that have retreated from the bitter northern weather, to overwinter in milder climes.

What situation involves shear

Frequent shallow earthquakes.

Where in the ocean are you likely to find animals that make their own light

the mesopelagic zone

What causes water molecules to stick together in liquid water

hydrogen bonds

Which factor do oceanographers measure in order to determine the salinity of ocean water

The conductivity of the water

Which field of study would be most useful to a person who wants to learn about the effects of new building projects on native species

Ecology

What can result when winds blow across ocean water

ocean waves

What is true of the bottom layer of the ocean Select the two correct answers.

It has the greatest density It has the coldest water

In which layer of the ocean are you likely to find most plants

The epipelagic zone

Which factor allows earth to hold onto liquid water

Moderate temperatures

just got it right apex (:

Why is ocean water near the equator warmer than ocean water at the poles

The ocean receives most of its heat along the equator, where incoming solar radiation is about double that received at the poles. Hence, sea surfaces are much warmer along the equator than at the poles.
