Binomial Nomenclature

  • System developed by Carolus Linnacus approximately 200 years ago
  • written in Latin
  • made up of genus and species

Binomial nomenclature is the name of a species. Binomial because it's two words. For instance, for our species, Homo sapiens. A wolf would be Canis lupus, a domestic cat would be Felix felix, a horse would be Equus equus etc. They're all Latin words.
