SolidΒ

Firm and stable in shape; not liquid or fluid

Liquid

A substance that flows freely but is of constant volume, having a consistency like that of water or oil

Gas

A gaseous substance that cannot be liquefied by the application of pressure alone

Sublimation

Transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, without passing through the liquid state

Condensation

Change of the state of matter from the gas phase into the liquid phase, and is the reverse of vaporization

Evaporation

The process of turning from liquid into vapor

Boiling

Reach or cause to reach the temperature at which it bubbles and turns to vapor

Freezing

Be turned into ice or another solid as a result of extreme cold

Melting

Becoming liquefied by heat

Crystalline Solid

A solid material whose constituents are arranged in a highly ordered microscopic structure, forming a crystal lattice that extends in all directions

Amorphous Solid

A solid that lacks the long-range order that is characteristic of a crystal. In some older books, the term has been used with glass
