The Knuckles Mountain Range, located in central Sri Lanka between Kandy and Matale, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 155-234 sq km. Named for its resemblance to a clenched fist, this misty, biodiversity-rich area features rugged peaks over 3000 ft, diverse ecosystems including cloud forests, and 40 rural villages. It is a premier eco-tourism, trekking, and hiking destination, best visited from December to March.
