Wuthering Heights

Nelly Dean is the narrator in Wuthering Heights, telling her story to Lockwood. She was the maid of Catherine, Hindley, and Heathcliff when they were young and followed Catherine when she married Edgar Linton to his house, Thrushcross Grange.

At the beginning of Nellys story within the book Heathcliff is presumed an orphan because they don't know"to whom he belonged" but throughout the book people lose their parents: Catherine & Hindley Earnshaw, Isabella & Edgar Linton, Catherine Linton, Hareton Earnshaw and Linton Heathcliff

Heathcliff feels that Catherine has let him down and begins to have an emotional shutdown. This is basically where everything with Heathcliff goes downhill.
