Most docs will tell you exactly what they want you to do, that said as an oncology nurse for 7 years: most of your assisting will be with the patient. As in preparation(teaching), consent, labwork, premedication, etc... I consider my most important aspect of this particular job to be comforting the patient. Hope this helps.
