It's a psychological defence mechanism. Mammals have what is referred to as a logical brain, and an emotional brain. When mammals (or humans) aren't shown enough love, attention, etc. from their parents as an infant they seek it from somewhere else and tend to attach themselves to inanimate objects. This is because mammals need emotional stimulation (as well as logical stimulation) to survive properly.
The infant personifies inanimate objects so they can get their emotional stimulation from the object/s.
My psychologist explained it like this.. When a lion is hunting, they go for the easiest pray. Baby animals don't offer enough food, so they either go for the injured ones, or the mothers. When the mother of an infant is killed, the infant may be able to survive physically, but it also needs its emotional stimulation. They can seek this from other members of their social group. If the infant is unable to find a replacement mother, it will leave the group. It will never be able to rejoin and be able to socialize.
Personally, I attached myself to my flannelette blanket (Blanky) which was sort of a replacement for my mother, and my three comforters (Compfies) who have become a replacement for my father.
Although this is in no way dangerous, and is very important in the early stages of development, it's not ideal for teenagers/adults for obvious reasons. What my psychologist told me to do is replace the objects with the thought process, i.e. "What would Compfy/Blanky do/say in this situation".
The term personification applies to ascribing human traits to objects, or to describing ideas or objects in human terms, e.g. an "angry sea".
No, inanimate objects do not have feelings as they lack consciousness or the ability to experience emotions. Feelings and emotions are typically associated with living beings that have the capacity for awareness and subjective experiences.
As much as any other inanimate object.
personification
Personification is a literary device where human qualities, characteristics, or emotions are attributed to inanimate objects, animals, or abstract concepts. It helps create vivid descriptions and adds depth to the writing by giving non-human things human-like attributes.
Yes, a lonely mirror is an example of personification because it gives human qualities (loneliness) to an inanimate object (mirror). Personification is when non-human things are described as having human characteristics.
No, objects do not have feelings. Feelings are typically associated with living beings that have the capacity for emotions and consciousness. Objects are inanimate and do not possess the ability to feel emotions.
yes, they are treated as abstract because they don't have any physical existence. to think at a higher level, they are not abstract because you always feel them. but to be practical they are abstract.
The value in an work of abstract art is a very personal thing, and is more related to the thoughts and emotions stirred in the viewer. A good abstract artwork is one that stirs deep emotions or thoughts in many persons that view it.
Personification is when an inanimate object is given human qualities, such as emotions or actions. This literary device is often used to make descriptions more vivid and engaging for the reader.
Abstract nouns are emotions and values. So two examples would be anger and integrity would be abstract nouns.
Emotions can be described as complex psychological and physiological states that can influence behavior and thoughts. They are often characterized by feelings such as joy, sadness, anger, fear, love, and surprise. Emotions can vary in intensity and duration.
