No medication can be safely taken when consuming alcohol because alcohol impairs judgement and that can lead to misdosing and or drug interactions that cause further impairment. ANd, if you are bipolar, you should not be drinking alcohol anyway, Maybe try and figure out why you want a drink when that is a contriutor to bipolar and will make it worse.
Yes, when someone is in the depressed phase of Bipolar Disorder it can make the depression worse. When someone is in the manic phase it can lead to them being more impulsive and lead to taking greater risks than either alcohol alone, or mania alone. Also alcohol can interact with many of the medications used to treat Bipolar illness adversely. It should also be noted that people with Bipolar disorder will often self medicate with alcohol and other non-prescribed drugs when not adequately being treated. The degree of ones Bipolar illness will also be a determining factor in how much alcohol will affect one with Bipolar Disorder.
I believe bipolar is treatable;definitely has a genetic component, but if childhood ADHD isn't treated it turns into bipolar later in life. I have bipolar people in my family and had come to tdefubhese conclusions from experience.
whats the question
Yes Drug and Alcohol issues are one of the biggest symptoms and or results of Bipolar. People with addictions usually are bipolar and becaome addicted before they know of the bipolar because they are trying to self medicate. With Bi-polar its like your on a roller coaster. Anyone using an addiction to self medicate needs to stop and receive proper treatment from a doctor. This is from personally experience.......
With the exception of Antisocial Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder is the mental illness most commonly associated with alcoholism. Over 40% of individuals with Bipolar 1 have a history of alcohol abuse.Basically, Bipolar Disorder and alcoholism tend to go hand in hand. Being Bipolar can cause increased mood swings in alcoholics.
Some statistics state as high as 90%, especially if drugs and/or alcohol are involved.
No, but they can be in a mental institution. hope this answers your question goodluck!
Alcohol can be a good medicine for many ADHD bipolar and the like.. It was used all through history, and if you are a Christian believer, was prescribed by God himself, to joy the heart, and ease depression and poverty.BUT, just like abusing any medicine from a doctor, the bad effects will out weight the good. Alcohol is a natural depressant.. not meaning sadness, but it calms in small amounts (glass or two), but when you tip the scale into drunk, the effects will be more evident in a AHD bipolar than one without these so called disorders. The danger for most ADD and Bipolar, is in their trials, they are susceptible to self medication. I myself am a bipolar schizophrenic and though i did have my battle with Alcohol in the past, with discipline I now drink in moderation with no ill effects as does my father (bipolar) and wife (ADHD - we like to stick together;).
What is your question?
Bipolars are more likely to become addicted to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and other things than "normal" people - they have a bad habit of trying to alter their moods with drugs and alcohol. Bipolar people are more prone to abuse and addiction . Sometimes they can cause depression or mania. It is best to take non-narcotic painkillers. Bipolar people have a high tolerance for narcotics so it can take a very high dosage to affect them, thus endangering them.
