The cross is always significant, as it is a reminder of how much God loves you! He gave His son Jesus, to die on that cross for my sins and yours. How cool is it that you have a permanent daily reminder! Also, you didn't have to pay for a tattoo! :)

The upwards force comes from two major sources, by the air pushed down by the wings(which also are pointing upwards and therefor pushes down the air that passes under them) and by the engine that is pointing downwards.
