I am not really clear on the question, this can occur in premature babies for a variety of reasons.

The Alveoli could not function properly and thus leak air into the the lung space. This rare condition is called Pneumothora.

This happens because the underdeveloped lungs lack the slippery surface needed. Also due to the lungs not functioning correctly it is necessary that a breathing machine is used to force oxygen into the lungs and this can also cause the lungs to burst.
