I think, yes. There are some adults I know who still live with their mothers and it seems that they will never have a normal relationship (but of course living with the mother is not a criteria for that, as there are men who live alone but still not able to create a normal relationship).
I think these guys have such high expectations which can't be fulfilled by anyone because no one can compete with the only women in their lives who love and overprotect them (or used to do it when they were kids). In my view these mothers usually didn't have a good relationship with the sons' father and when these children were babies they gave all their love to them as a compensation of their failed relationship.
This complex need to be cured by a psychologist, although most of the men goes to a therapist if they have sexual problems (like impontency).
(I am not a therapist just read about the topic so any other view is welcome.)
A love for one's mother and a lack of it for one's fathermay be said to be the basis for the Oedipus complex, and for Theban King Oedipus' problems. According to the complex, a healthy adult male needs to move a childhood stage of making the mother important to an adolescent stage of listening to his father. Oedipus can be said not to do so. He kills his father, and takes his father's place by marrying his father's wife. That wife isn't a stepmother. She's Oedipus' biological mother.
The Oedipus complex.
Electra complex
His mother looks so young, does he have an Oedipus complex?
The term psychologists use for this complex is the Oedipus complex. It is a concept introduced by Sigmund Freud to describe a child's feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite sex and a sense of rivalry with the parent of the same sex.
The Oedipus complex is the attraction to your parent of the opposite sex and the hatred of your parent of the same sex. Oedipus Rex killed his father and married his mother. (In his defense, he didn't know they were his parents.)
The Oedipus complex comes from the ancient Greek play Oedipus. Dr. Sigmund Freud named this condition after one of the key meanings in the play. In Oedipus, the main character (oedipus himself) kills his father and marries his mother. The meaning of the Oedipus complex is a boy's natural sexual feelings for his own mother. This is shown at birth and in normal human behavior, is broken up after years of aging. If not, there's a problem-- Oedipus Complex.
The colloquial references to an "Oedipus complex" heightens the dramatic irony in the play.
Yes, According to Sigmund Freud that made the Oedipus complex theory which states that a boy's desire to replace his father and have the affections of his mother.
Freud believed that successful resolution of the Oedipus complex would lead to the development of healthy adult relationships, particularly with the opposite-sex parent. This would involve overcoming unconscious desires and feelings towards the same-sex parent and resolving any feelings of jealousy and rivalry.
