If this blood clot comes loose from the wall of the vein or artery, it can travel to the heart and get stuck or block any of the 4 chambers of the heart. This can cause a heart attack and the result can be death if medical treatment isn't found fast enough. If this happens in the brain, it can cause a stroke and the part of the body that the brain controls can be diminished. If this area was a vital organ or system, like respiration (breathing), you could definitely die from it.
