We are looking for the possible blood types of a baby.

Parental information:

  • Mother type O -- can only be OO = contributes O gene
  • Father type B -- can be BB or BO = contributes B or O gene
Baby receives one gene from each parent:
  • Baby is type BO
  • Baby is type OO
Generally, since neither parent has an A gene to contribute, the baby cannot be Type A.

HOWEVER: There is more to ABO blood typing that just the ABO gene.

There is also an inhibitory gene that will change any genotype into the phenotype O.

Therefore a person with genetically AB blood can be tested as having Type O.

If the Type O parent has the inhibitory gene affecting his Type A or AB blood,

then the Type A baby is definitely possible.

Can a a positive father and a o negative mother produce a a negative child?

Yes, if both the mother and the father are carriers of the recessive Rh negative trait, they can produce a child with O negative blood type. The child would inherit one Rh negative allele from each parent, resulting in a negative blood type.

Can a mother with b negative blood and a father with o negative blood make a baby with ab negative blood?

no

Can a mother with a negative blood and a father with ab negative blood have a child with b positive blood?

yes

Can a mother with A positive blood and father with O positive blood have a baby with A negative blood?

Yes, it is possible for a mother with A positive blood and a father with O positive blood to have a baby with A negative blood. The baby would inherit one A allele from the mother and one O allele from the father, resulting in A negative blood type.

If the mother is A negative and the father is B positive what type of blood can the baby get?

It would all depend on the Dominant and Recessive blood type genes in the mother and father it is near improbable to tell unless you take a blood sample to test the blood type. == A rhesus negative mother and positive father can produce either a rhesus negative or positive child. A type A and type O parental combination will only produce either type A or type O children. So an A- mother and O+ father will normally produce offspring having the possible blood groups of A+ or A- or O+ or O-. See the link for a full explanation.

Can a father with A-negative blood have a child with A-positive blood?

Yes, a father with A negative blood can have a child with A positive blood. If he does, the mother must have a positive Rh factor, and the mother's blood type may be any of the possibilities.

Can a mother with a negative blood and a father with o negative blood have a child with a positive blood?

more than 99% not.

Can a o positive mother an a o negative father produce a b negative child?

No - blood group O is recessive, two O parents can only produce an O child. A Rh+ mother and Rh- father can produce either a Rh+ or Rh- child - Rh+ is the dominant factor.
