No, but is the dickens to get it off.
If the dried paint is on the inside of a pyrex container and you cook something in it, it is possible that some of the paint might leech into the food. The fumes from appliance epoxy paint are highly toxic, and it is doubtful that any paint manufacturer would recommend that dried flakes of the paint be taken internally. There is a good possibilty that a small amount of the paint wouldn't hurt you. However, I would go by what my mother always said: "When in doubt, throw it out!" Or use it for a flower pot.
That is a great question!!!! Pyrex used to be a form of borosilicate glass which was and still is prized for its inert properties. Meaning it doesn't contaminate other chemicals or be contaminated easily . I guess the question is can you get it cleaned out of the toxic substance? The other problem is Pyrex brand kitchenware hasent been made of true pyrex for some time and is not as inert as it once was. Is it pre or post pyrex pyrex? Its hard to tell. The safest way to be safe is scap it unless your sure. David Custome Glass Maker/Caster
I would have to say Pyrex
No, not all glass is made from Pyrex. Pyrex is a brand name for a type of borosilicate glass that is known for its durability and resistance to thermal shock. There are many other types of glass with different compositions and properties used for various applications.
Pyrex is borosilicate glass and like all glass does not absorb any chemicals.
Pyrex changed its glass formula in 1998 from borosilicate to tempered soda-lime glass.
Pyrex glass is designed to withstand sudden & drastic TEMPERATURE changes. Most glass will shatter with sudden temperature changes. Pyrex is not bulletproof. Most transparent bulletproof material (glass) is composed of several layers of plastic & glass sandwiched together. The plastic holds the glass together, while the glass absorbs a bullet's impact.
Pyrex is just a brand name of toughened, heat-resistant glass.
It is a glass formulated to resist thermal shock.
The refractive index of Pyrex glass is typically around 1.47 for visible light. This value may vary slightly depending on the specific composition and thickness of the Pyrex glass.
Yes, Pyrex glass is made with the addition of boron oxide. Borosilicate glass, of which Pyrex is a brand, contains boron oxide to help improve its thermal resistance and durability compared to traditional soda-lime glass.
Pyrex is perfect for microwaving because it is made of glass. Glass is safe to go in the microwave and it will not contaminate your food.
