We are looking for the possible blood types of a baby.

Parental information:

  • Mother type AO -- contributes A or O gene
  • Father type BB -- contributes B gene
Baby receives one gene from each parent:
  • Baby is type AB = Type AB
  • Baby is type AO = Type A
  • Baby is type BO = Type B
With this parental cross, the offspring will be Type A, B or AB. They cannot be Type O because that would require that each parent contributes an O gene, and the BB parent cannot do so.

Do your children have to have same blood as you?

No - children do not have to have the same blood type as the parents. For example, if one parent has blood type A and the other has blood type AB, the child might have A, B or AB blood types. (For the child to have B, the parent with blood type A would need to be heterozygous, Ao)

What are the chances of having two kids that have the same trait?

This depends on the genetics of the parents. Simple blood group genetics lends itself to this concept. If both parents are AA then all children will be AA The most common blood groups are A, B and O Types A and B are dominant over type O blood. Types A and B combined produce an intermediate AB blood type. If the parents are heterozygous AO and BO respectively their children could be phenotypically A, B, AB or O (genotypes would be AO, BO, AB or OO). AA AO parents only A type children AO AO 3/4 A type, 1/4 O type BB BO parents only B type children OO parents only O type children AA and BB parents all children would be AB AO and BB parents children AB or B only AA and BO parents children AB or A only AB and AB parents children AB AA or BB

Can B blood impregnates O?

Yes - all blood groups can have children together. If the two parents are type B and type O, then the child will either be blood type O or B. This depends on whether the parent with B-type blood is heterozygous (BO) or homozygous (BB).

Can o and b have an a?

No, O and B blood type parents can not create an A blood type offspring. The only blood type offspring that can be created by these parents is O+, O-, B+, or B-.
