I am a deaf person I have a Profound to sevear hearing loss Based on current Science and technology there is no cure for hearing loss. there are aids that can help improve hearing and social and academical skills. But unfourtuantly there has been no cure. so yes it is permanent. Hearing aids and Cochlear Implants may help improve hearing but it will never become "compleatly Hearing" ever again.

If it is due to neurological damage to the ear or hearing from such things as high noise levels (in single bursts or for sustained periods), injury, or due to the aging process, there is little that can be done. However, some causes are treatable and can eliminate the symptom of tinnitus.

Causes:

1. Presbycusis also known as age-related hearing loss.
2. Exposure to loud noise like from gunfire, manufacturing, heavy equipment and chain saws or like from overly loud decebels of music. Loud noises, such as those from heavy equipment, chain saws and firearms, are common sources of noise-related hearing loss.
3. Earwax blockage can cause hearing loss or eardrum irritation, which can cause tinnitus.
4. Otosclerosis, loss of flexibility of the small bones in your middle ear can be familial and is caused by abnormal bone growth.
5. Meniere's disease (caused by abnormal inner ear fluid pressure).
6. Stress and depression. For some reason, these conditions can be associated with tinnitus.
7. TMJ disorders (problems with your jaw joint, the temperomandibular joint).
8. Head injuries or neck injuries can cause disruption in the auditory nerves or the brain functions needed for hearing.
9. Vestibular schwannoma also known as acoustic neuroma is a benign growth on the nerve that controls balance and hearing and can cause tinnitus (usually in one ear).

    • Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) can occur in the connections between arteries and veins causing tinnitus usually in only one ear.

Some treatments for tinnitus that can cure or improve the problem are:
