You run a high risk of getting salmonella if you touch your turtle and then neglect washing your hands after, and you put your hands in or near your mouth or rub your eyes wiypth your hand(s) used in holding the turtle. However, you will run a risk of near zero percent if you make sure to wash your hands well. I'd personally still avoid mouth-eye contact regardless, seeing how many other diseases you may get with unclean hands.
There are many diseases that a wild pond turtle can catch in its lifetime. One of these diseases is known as ulcerative shell disease.

You shouldn't catch a turtle for a pet, you should buy one bred in captivity. It's better for the turtle.
