You can be allergic to anything that is not "endogenous" ie produced by the body itself. Any drug or man made chemical can be a possible allergen. I have seen people allergic to piriton (chlorphenamine) - a drug that is commonly used to treat allergic reactions :).

A true allergic reaction includes anaphylaxis (serious). Urticarial rashes (itchy and wheal like - like being stung by nettles or a bee) and facial swelling also suggest a true allergic reaction. Other symptoms such as palpitations, nausea, sickness, diarrhea, headaches, feeling "off" may or may not be allergic reaction - they tend to suggest intolerance or known effects of the drug (eg caffiene is known to give you palpitations, flushing and headaches in higer doses) rather than a true allergy per se.

I'll explain:- I changed to Decaff since i was having reactions to caffeine which has been affecting me mentally and physically. I have been drinking decaf for years thinking it was decaffinated.
