The answer to this question is, basically, no - at least not without eating enormous quantities of the substance, or unless it contained other substances such as sharp objects that could result in internal damage.

The term "plaster' covers a bit of territory, but usually refers to a number of calcium based substances used to finish walls. These substances are not toxic, but are often quite alkaline, and could cause irritation or burning to soft tissues such as the lips and throat. Dry plaster dust can be quite irritating to the upper bronchial.

In any case, if your infant or toddler decided to eat a bit of this stuff while you were smashing out the kitchen wall, you probably have no reason for concern but, if you are concerned, see a doctor.

Is eating plastering poisonous?

Plaster itself is not poisonous. Some people are allergic to it but generally you will only have a reaction to it if you consume it. Plaster of Paris may cause breathing difficulties if inhaled. Wall plaster is harmless once it is painted and/or covered, and contact with it before that is fine. Painted wall plaster is safer as it does not release dust.
