I have just been diagnosed with center lens opacity (cataracts) in both eyes. I am 55 years old. My Consultant told me that generally if you are over 65 years you can get cataracts, younger is unusual but by no means rare ..... Taking certain types of steroids can give you cataracts. Now I am not sure which but medically prescribed ones, over long term use. But I am sure if someone is prescribed steroids they will be warned of the possible side effects of cataracts. For women taking the illegal DNP to lose weight has been shown to cause cataracts.

How does LASIK surgery affect cataract surgery?

LASIK surgery reshapes your cornea to improve vision but can make cataract surgery more complex. However, with advanced techniques and careful planning, most people still achieve good vision after cataract surgery, even if they've had LASIK. Be sure to tell your eye surgeon about any previous LASIK so they can tailor the procedure to your needs.

I am on Depakote, Clonazepam (Klonopin),Concerta & Prilosec and was concerned about eating grapefruit while on these medications (as I've heard that there can be a negative response while taking some medications and grapefruit together)...~ I just called my pharmacist and listed all these medications for her, and she said that they are ALL FINEto take while eating grapefruit. YAY!~ She went on to say that mostly, there is a concern with taking cholesterol-lowering medications and eating grapefruit. ~ SO, if you are taking: DEPAKOTE, KLONOPIN (Clonazepam), Concerta, or Prilosec (Omeprazole), NO WORRIES!
