It is rare that you will get a false positive. Make sure you are reading the directions correctly on the box for each pregnancy test you take. They need to be on a flat, dry surface and left alone until the time limit in the directions. If you had some bleeding/spotting this could be implantation bleeding which is common in your first symptoms of pregnancy. I only tested positive on a Clearblue pregnancy test. No other test would give me a positive. So it could also be the brand you are using. I wouldn't recommend dollar store pregnancy tests. Pregnancy tests aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Hi there. Yes it does indeed sound like you are pregnant. You most likely got the negative pregnancy test because you did the test when there wasn't a sufficent amount of HCG in your urine or because you used a different brand of test which isn't very reliable. You need to see your doctor sweetheart for a blood test to confirm the pregnancy. You will ONLY get a positive test when HCG has been detected in your urine and HCG is only produced during pregnancy. See your doctor for a QUANTITATIVE BETA HCG blood test. This will confirm the pregnancy. Best Wishes.

The blood test will detect pregnancy earlier than a home pregnancy test, but if you have waited long enough for the home test to be accurate (this varies between tests, but some are accurate a few days after a missed period...the home test boxes will tell you this information), then you could have the blood test IF you think you got a false-negative on your home test. It would be less expensive to repeat the home test than to go for a blood test. Maybe try a different brand? A blood test will determine a pregnancy if you are pregnant, but if your home test was "reliable" (i.e. negative) then I would not bother with the blood test. You may want to ask a more specific question. I could think you are worried about having a blood test for a physical or insurance qualification...whatever...and you want to make sure your results would be negative. Unless they are specifically testing for pregnancy, they will not be told by the lab "oh, by the way, she is pregnant." Then again, what immediately struck my heart was the fact that you may be trying to get pregnant and when your home test was negative, you had an urgent need to know if in fact you could be pregnant. In this case, the blood test would afford you tremendous peace of mind. This way, you would know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are or are not pregnant. If you took the home-urine test too early, then there is a chance you have gotten a false negative. In this case, yes, a blood test could find pregnancy when the home test did not.
