Daydreams are not a mental illness

They can be a sign of mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia only if the person who daydreams is unaware or unable to distinguish the differences between daydreams and reality.

Fantasizing can allow us to explore our creativity and problem solving abilities, and it can even help people plan their objectives, and desired outcomes like positive feedback from someone who plays an important role in one's life.

Some, however have escapism, which is somewhat of a defense mechanism for people who have been really hurt in the past, whether it be by a caregiver, important adult, or other peers, etc.
