Most people that get infected experience symptoms or a break out with in 2-30 days after being exposed to herpes. This is less common but some people can have herpes with out ever getting signs or symptoms of it.

If you think you could have it, all you can do is keep an eye out for any signs or symptoms and see a doctor if you think you're getting a break out. You can also have a blood test don 5-7 weeks after being exposed if you don't have any symptoms.

Just so you know you're not always doomed to get it. If your partner didn't have any signs or symptoms then you're less likely to contract it.
