The farting depends on the species of turtles. The Madagascan Snapping Turtle is known to fart at 74 decibels. However, other turtles have been known to fart silently. But the smell is actually quite noticeable. Most farts come from aquatic turtles and not from tortoises. So the answer is tortoises do NOT fart but it is a possibility because they are closely related to the turtle, which actually farts.

Simply put, any animal with a digestive system (which includes tortoises) produces gases during digestion (the gas that you smell from farts is methane gas) and these gases can be released through the anal hole.
