The course of CFS varies widely for different people. Some people get progressively worse over time, while others gradually improve. Studies show that about four percent of patients recover in a year or less. Many other patients may experience partial remission, but may remain disabled or continue to lead substantially diminished lives. A substantial number of patients never recover.
