It can do. I used to be terrified of Spiders and heights, but because I didn't want my son to get those phobias I had to pretend not to be scared... Although spiders still scare me, and heights ... well, they still scare me too, I've been able to remove household spiders without totally freaking out, and take my son on holiday in an airplane, something I could never have done before he was born. He had a favourite picture book about a "very busy spider" when hew as a baby, and I had to read it twenty times a day... to begin with I could hardly pick the book up, but reading it actually helped me think about spiders without creeping out. Mind you, if I remove a spider in a cup, I've got to throw the cup out after I'm finished. But I'm not so scared as I used to be. That is, I don't run around the house screaming anymore, and my son is now twelve, and has only just realised that I have any phobia on this issue at all. He thinks its funny, so that's a good thing, right? At least he didn't inherit it!
