No. according to the info I read from WebM.D. and HowStuffWorks.Com, Mayonnaise contains vinegar and natural oils. Apply to your hair, cover with a towel for an hour/two hours and wash off in the shower. This in conjunction with using a fine tooth comb in the shower will help dislodge the Nits (lice eggs) . I also wonder if by using a disposable plastic surgical scrub brush which has very soft fine bristles will accomplish the same results.

Well, it doesn't kill the lice exactly, it actually suffocates the lice yeah it basically kills them. It suffocates them, because mayonnaise is really think and lice can't handle all the chemicals. So yes it does work.

Instead you should put alcohol, but cover your nose and mouth and eyes.

You simply just by a couple jars of mayo depending on how many people in your family is infected i would treat everybody's head in the house because if you don't you always have the possibility of keeping them. 1.you just saturate your hair with mayo like you would with shampoo like you were washing your hair. 2. i have always found that if you do it right before bedtime "around 10 or 11 pm" and put your hair up in a ponytail holder then put a shower cap on your head. 3.you might want to put a towel around your neck and keep it close to you because when mayo gets hot it gets runny and nasty and defiantly stinks terribly. then go to sleep with it on when you get up in the morning was your hair twice with dawn dish soap no other kind DO NOT USE CONDITIONER mayo conditions your hair it will be shiny silky and smooth when it is all over with. then you buy a metal lice comb and comb through your hair with it over and over and over again until you can no longer see eggs or bugs coming off of the head then you have to pick by hand through there hair. you have to keep this process up for fourteen days treating your hair about 2 or 3 times in that fourteen days. bags all stuffed animals and blankets you don't use for two weeks. then dry your pillows and bedding in in the dryer for 45 minutes. no need to wash then the heat kills them there is also no need to re wash all your clothes. you need to by lice bedding spray and spray everything beds, couches, chairs bathroom accessories rug's things that go around and on the toilet seat that is cloths.) don't worry if you have young kids it will not hurt them at all they just have to stay off of everything that has been sprayed for twenty minutes do this after you treat their heads though right before they go to bed. then vacuum your house EVERY single day.

Mayonnaise can kill lice because it is thick and drowns them. DO NOT SLEEP OVERNIGHT W/ MAYO BECAUSE IT WILL BE SPOILED! IF YOU SCRATCH YOUR HEAD AT NIGHT AT TOUCH YOUR MOUTH, YOU WILL GET SICK!

An hour should smother the lice but will not kill the nits. However it will make the hair smooth so that nit removal is less painful.

Yes! When we had lice, we matted our hair in either a half or whole jar of Real Mayonaise (depending on the thickness and length of your hair) and let it sit for a few hours. Next we rinsed our hair in water and vinegar. This will kill the live lice on your head, however not the eggs unfortunately. =)

Some people use home remedies such as mayonnaise, petroleum jelly, olive oil, vinegar or margarine. Although these products may make it hard for lice to breathe, they probably won't kill them. Certainly not all of them and that will start the cycle all over.

There is very little evidence that wet combing works (removing lice by combing wet hair with a fine-tooth comb called a NIT COMB)

There is no evidence that products such as tea tree oil or aromatherapy work to treat head lice.
