The STRUCTURAL CLASSIFICATION of the nervous system includes all of the nervous system organs. It also has two subdivisions, the CNS and the PNS. The CNS consist of the brain and the spinal cord, both interpret incoming sensory information and issue instructions based on past experience. The PNS consist of nerves that extend from the brain and spinal cord, these nerves serve as communication lines.
The FUNCTIONAL CLASSIFICATION of the nervous system divides the PNS structures into two principal subdivisions. The first of which is called the SENSORY, OR AFFERENT DIVISION, it keeps the CNS constantly informed of events going on both inside and outside the body. The MOTOR/EFFERENT DIVISION, carries impulses from the CNS to effector organs, the muscles, and glands. These impulses activate muscles and glands, thus creating a "motor response."
I got this information almost word for word from my anatomy and physiology book, and my brain :P
neuron
The structural and functional unit of the nervous system is the neuron cell.
Neurons are the basic structural unit of nervous system. But there are other cells called as neuroglial cells (comprise 50% of the total nervous system along with nerve cells) which are also the structural unit of nervous system.Neurons on the other hand are functional unit too but neuroglial cells are not.

biological
The nervous system gathers information from the external environment, stores and processes it, and initiates the appropriate responses.__________________________________excuse me, i think he / she wasn't asking about what the nervous system is but what isThe functional unit of the nervous system is the neuron.
A neuron. ^ he is asking why, not what ^it's (neuron) called so, because the nervous system is composed mainly of the brain, spinal cord and nerves (neurons). since most of the nervous system is made of neurons, they are called the structural unit of NS, meaning that the NS is composed of these neurons.
A nerve cell is actually called a neuron. It is the structural and functional unit of the nervous system. It can also be called a nerve fiber.
The structural classification of a neuron that has one axon and one dendrite is known as a bipolar neuron. These neurons are primarily found in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and are commonly associated with sensory functions, such as in the retina of the eye and the olfactory system. Bipolar neurons play a crucial role in transmitting sensory information from sensory receptors to the central nervous system.
You need to be more specific -- which farm animals are you referring to? Cows, pigs, chickens, geese, horses, goats??
No. The functional unit of the nervous system is the neuron. Neurons group together to form nerves.
