Well, to make this simple, lets take apart the word. We know that pernicious is only an adjective (it means fatal or deadly), and anemia means blood ... well, the lack there of. In pernicious anemia specifically, the low B12 levels cause the red blood cells to be swollen, large, and twice the normal size. Therefore, it makes the exit from the bone marrow very hard for the blood cells, because they have to struggle to get out. So there is a second reason why PA is so problematic: because there are two reasons why the individual cannot have enough working red blood cells. Also, there is not enough B12 to make the normal amounts of blood, so this also impairs the hemoglobin level. Make sense?
