The cramps could have been from ovulating. The patch is pretty effective if your using it properly and is supposed to shorten and lighten your period. Its always safest to still use a condom if you want to make sure you wont get STD's or get pregnant because antibiotics and antidepressants lower the effectiveness of birth control.
