Blood pressure can be measured by means of an invasive and non-invasive method. The invasive method requires the insertion of an arterial catheter that measures blood pressure real time. The radial artery is most often used but other arteries can suffice.

The non-invasive method would entail the use of a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. We listen for "Korotkoff's Sound". The beginning of the sound marks the systolic pressure while the end of the sound marks the diastolic pressure. The brachial artery is most often used but in some instances the popliteal artery can also be used.
