It is important to go to the toilet at the same time each day and when you have plenty of time. If nothing happens after,say, 10 minutes do not worry. Try again in the next day. Drink up plenty of water up to atleast 3 litres of water a day and make sure you have enough fibre in your diet.This improves the tone of your muscles of the rectum and keeps the faeces bulky and soft.
