I am suffering like you do but mine is horizontally at the base. Well, they tell me it will heal slowly. A new nail will grow beneath our dead ones and when it is fully grown, the dead nail will automatically remove itself from its place. I know imagining it sucks. But dont worry, I have undergone this same thing when I was a kid. I just don't remember if its painful or not.
