During puberty, as the rest of the bones in the skeleton elongate and you grow taller, the bones in a boy's face also elongate. Adults have longer faces than children, whose faces are more compact. Boys also grow hair on their faces. The growth usually begins at the corners of the upper lip, on the chin and at the sides of the face close to the ears. Eventually, for most boys, these three separate areas will eventually spread and merge together resulting in the growth of a full beard if you don't shave. Most adults need to shave once or twice a day in order to apear "clean shaven." However some adults grow much less facial hair and may only need to save once a week or even less frequentlly. Unfortunately there is also another facial change that many boys also experience, namely spots. These can be in the form of whiteheads, blackheads or just plain pimples. They often appear over night with the result that you can awaken to find a crop of spots that weren't there when you went to sleep. They often cluster in specific places on the face. The forehead, the sides of the nose and just below the bottom lip are all typical places at which spots tend to appear. Why do boys (and girls) get them? During puberty the skin of a teenager gets much oilier than the skin of a younger child and this oil traps tiny particles of dirt in the pores, leading to a blocked pore and the formation of a spot. The remedy? Washing your face certainly helps but if you still get lots of spots visit your doctor and ask for advice as there are treatments available. On the other hand you might be one of the lucky few who never gets any spots.
