The midwife or doctor will check for dilation. They will put two fingers into the vagina and feel for the opening of the cervix. They will then determine how many fingers will fit inside the opening of the cervix. One finger equals one cm. Once you are 10cm, you are dilated enough to birth the baby.
Ask the doctor.
You must ask the doctor who did the D&C for advise about this.
Generally there is no need for a doctor to do an invasive check unless the baby is very overdue, there are other signs of labor or a cause for concern. You could request it if you wish. 40 weeks is not overdue.and the amount of dilation doesn't always give an indication of when labor will start.
One eye may still be dilated after an eye doctor appointment due to differences in pupil responses between the eyes, individual variations in pupil sensitivity to dilation drops, or underlying eye conditions that affect pupil dilation. It is important to follow up with the eye doctor if the dilation persists or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
Only if your doctor choses to do this as a sterile procedure - anything introduced into the vagina during dilation could potentially cause a uterine infection.

Dilation (orig. latin Dilatation), meaning 'widening' , 'extending' or change in volume. Example: Dilation of the ventricles of the heart, Vessel dilation, Dilation of the smooth muscles etc. Mydriatic is the medical term that pertains to dilating the pupils, such as the drops that you get at the eye doctor's office. Aneurysmal refers to dilation of an artery.
Dilation and curettage is a very simple procedure and it shouldn't be something to stop your from moving on with your plans on starting a family. Normally the doctor would tell you to avoid intercourse for 2 weeks and tells you that your next period will start in 4 weeks after the procedure which means you are fertile and good to go. But to be on the safe side, its better to see your doctor for regular check up to see about your recovery process and then have an ultrasound or scan done 3 months after to check if your uterus is in good condition and out of harms way this way you wouldn't be sure that you are healthy and strong to carry a pregnancy.
